Sacred Grove

Sacred Grove

The trail leading from the Smith frame home to the Sacred Grove as seen in the fall.

Summer in the Sacred Grove.

Rays of sunlight directly over the Sacred Grove in early spring, the time when Joseph received his first vision.

Fall in the Sacred Grove, before the commencement of the winter snows.

This is how the Grove actually looks in the early spring, as opposed to the greenery normally associated with the Sacred Grove.

A peaceful walking path cuts through the grove with several benches for quiet contemplation.

Trail through the Sacred Grove.

Many of the trees in this 10 acre grove are more than 200 years old.

Joseph prayed at a location he had found when he was clearing the land for farming.

A peaceful spirit permeates the grove area, much like that felt on temple grounds.

God the Father and Jesus Christ appeared to 14 year old Joseph here in the spring of 1820.

The restoration of the gospel commenced here.

Here Joseph received an answer to his question about which church he should join.

Important truths about the nature of God and Jesus was revealed to the boy prophet in the grove.

The Smith family cleared over 60 acres of wooded area to prepare the ground for farming.

This area has been referred to as the Sacred Grove for about a century.

The area continues to bear witness of the reality of the living Christ and His Father.

From this point the gospel has grown to spread across the earth.

Clouds breaking over the grove, symbolic of the dispersion of centuries of darkness by the restoration of the gospel.

Rays of light descend over the grove and Smith farm after a storm.

Remains of a stone wall can be seen around the perimeter of the Sacred Grove.

The wall was reportedly built by the Smith family to indicate the boundaries of their property.
