Monument and visitor center commemorating the birth of Joseph Smith, Prophet of the Restoration.

A small cottage was located in the trees to the left of the monument. It was here that the Prophet was born on December 23, 1805.

The granite monument is 38.5 feet tall, one foot for each year of the Prophet’s life.

President Joseph F. Smith dedicated the monument on December 23, 1905.

At the base of the monument is a summary of key events from the Prophet’s life, as a testimony of the divinity of the work.

The location of the cottage where Joseph was born, the third son of Joseph Sr. and Lucy Mack Smith.

The front doorstep of the cottage now features a plaque describing the significance of the stone.

This stone and plaque indicates the location of the hearthstone in the cabin, possibly the precise spot where Joseph was born.

Solomon Mack was Lucy Mack Smith’s father. He owned a 100-acre farm on which his daughter and son-in-law lived for a while.

The old cellar is all that remains of the Mack home. It is located several hundred yards northeast of the birthplace of Joseph.
